Special Issue on Multimedia Networking and Wireless Communications

http://www.inderscience.com/catalogue/w/ijwmc/indexijwmc.html

The technology of multimedia networking and wireless communication systems has made great progress in recent years. These systems are expected to provide a wide range of multimedia services to network and mobile users with guaranteed quality-of-service (QoS). Multimedia services required in these networks include data, voice, video, graphics and Internet access, each with its own traffic characteristics and distinct QoS requirements. This special issue will select the best papers presented at DMS'03, CNS'03, DET'03, VIS'03, VLC'03 and MSEAT'03. The main theme of this special issue focuses on techniques, systems, applications, and theories in the fields of computer network and wireless communication.

Topics:

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Audio and video compression for wireless devices
  • Communication encryption for mobile applications
  • Multimedia communications and network architectures
  • Mobile networks and mobile computing
  • Multimedia stream synchronization and QoS control/scheduling
  • Multi agents, mobile agents and their applications
  • Multimedia applications for CSCW
  • Security of distributed computer systems
  • Tele-conferencing, tele-medicine and tele-lecture
  • Mobile distance learning methodology, tools and systems
  • Ad hoc networking
  • WLAN, Bluetooth, WPAN, and home networking
  • Mobile network protocols
  • Wireless QoS Services
  • PCS, GPRS, 3G
  • Location/context aware protocols and services
  • Cryptography and cryptanalysis algorithms
  • P2P communications, and pervasive computing and applications

Submission:

The authors of the invited papers will be asked to revise and extend their papers and submit an electronic version (PDF format) of the full paper via email to chens@cs.fiu.edu by November 11, 2003. Papers must be prepared in such a way that ensures they will print anywhere. Thus, you should avoid using special fonts. Manuscripts must be in English and should not exceed 5000 words. Submissions should include the title, author(s), author’s affiliation, e-mail addresses, tel/fax numbers, abstract, and postal address on the first page.

Time schedule:

  • Extended Paper submission Due: November 11, 2003
  • Notification of Acceptance: December 11, 2003
  • Revising and formatting: December 30, 2003
  • Camera-ready Manuscript Due: January 15, 2004
