Panel Title:
The Convergence of Fixed and Mobile
Communications: Applications, Challenges and Opportunities
Moderator:
Subramanyam Vdaygiri,
Program
Manager, Siemens Corporate Research
Abstract:
Historically, communication has been fragmented into domains for
practical and technical reasons. This led to a proliferation of
multiple devices, services and modes of communication resulting in a
fragmented user experience. Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) is the
initiative whereby service providers/carriers are seeking to provide
a seamless and unified user experience irrespective of whether
end-user is on the road, at home, at a hot spot or at work.
This panel will discuss the new applications, opportunities and
challenges for FMC and the next generation frameworks and
technologies. Could it be that FMC is the key enabling technology
for heralding Mark Weiser's vision of Ubiquitous Computing?
