GAANN Fellowships

General Information

The School of Computing and Information Sciences (SCIS) at Florida International University (FIU) has four prestigious GAANN (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need) Fellowships available starting in the Fall 2007. The GAANN Fellowships are funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

The FIU SCIS GAANN fellowships provide support to assist graduate students of superior ability who demonstrate financial need and who plan to pursue a Ph.D. in Computer Science.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Admitted into FIU SCIS Ph.D. program as a full-time student.
  3. Highly qualified Ph.D. student; and
  4. Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
Members of normally underrepresented groups in the sciences are specifically encouraged to apply.

Benefits

A GAANN fellowship can provide a maximum of $30,000 per year for living expenses and additional funds to pay for other educational expenses. It is important to note that the GAANN fellowships are need-based. This means that, depending on your financial need, you may not be eligible for the full $30,000. The actual fellowship amount is tailored to the needs of each student after review of their application.
