FIU-CIS Jabber Instant Message Service

The School of Computing and Information Sciences proudly offers the Jabber Instant Messenger Service. Jabber is an instant messenger application like Yahoo! Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, and MSN Messenger. The School of Computing and Information Sciences maintains a Jabber server for students, faculty and staff to use. Gateways are also installed so that the user can access AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, and ICQ.

To use this service, you must first set up an account on our jabber server. To set up an account, you must be enrolled in a Computer Science course which uses the JCCL or have a Computer Science UNIX account. If you wish to create a Jabber IM account on our server and join other students, faculty and staff, please click on our Jabber Registration page.

To view more information on what Jabber is and how to use it in our computer labs, you can check out the Jabber IM Documentation on our JCCL's Information & Documentation web page.

If you do not have a Jabber client and don't want to install one on your home PC, we have a java applet so you can log in and chat right from your browser. Just visit our Jabber Java Applet and get chatting right away!

If you have any questions or comments about our Jabber Instant Messenger service, please contact jabber@cis.fiu.edu
