The fees are determined by the School and approved by Academic Affairs Budget Office. Presently the School is collecting approx. 2/3rds of the current necessary lab costs.
- How are these fees formulated?
The fees are based on estimates used to address operational costs to run the lab, which includes staffing, consumables (toner, paper) and equipment refresh. We look at our expenditures/enrollment for the last three years to establish a baseline for the fees.
- How much are the additional fees?
Additional lab fees are $30.
- How are they justified?
Academic Affairs Budget Office has indicated that we can charge these fees to defray lab costs.
- Where does the money go? Who collects it, disperse it, uses it?
Academic Affairs Budget Office would have the internal details of how the funds are collected/transferred internally. The School receives the funds in an FIU account. The School then tracks appropriate expenses and will use the funds to purchase goods/services needed to operate the lab.
- How is this money used for the student?
All fees collected are used for operating the lab and its services. The fees collected only cover an estimated 2/3rds of the costs needed to operate the labs.
- Do they cover printing materials, such as paper?
Yes, we will use the fees to pay for lab printing services.
