VPN Information
request@cis.fiu.edu, Support Group
VPN allows your system to connect to the FIU-CIS internal network over the Internet. The VPN server assigns you an IP in the FIU address space, which allows you to access certain services like Windows Remote Desktop, map Windows shares, and so on. Note that a VPN connection is not required for SSH logins to UNIX servers, FTP logins, access to department HTTP servers and so on. These services are open to the public Internet.
VPN access is only available to Faculty/Staff and graduate students who demonstrate a need for VPN in their coursework. To receive a VPN account, a student must have their professor request it. Undergraduates do not normally receive VPN access.
