Greetings,

Some new software available on the unix systems:

If you have the standard unix .cshrc file all these commands should be
available at the command prompt. If you dont have the standard .cshrc
please see me (Eric) in rm 283 and I will get you fixed up.

1. nedit - nedit is a x window based visual editor. Many of our test users
have found it easy to use and intuitive. Available on solaris 2, irix 5.3 and
linux systems.

2. xfig - xfig is a graphical design tool. It allows you to create pictures
and figures and then outputs them in pic, tex, gif, postscript and other
formats. Available on solaris 2, irix 5.3 and linux systems.

3. lyx - lyx is a semi-wysiwyg x winodws document preparation system. I is
rather similer in concept and use to the commercial "publisher" software.
it uses LaTeX as its back end, which makes doucments it creates quite
portable. The beta version of lyx is available on solaris 2 and irix 5.3
systems. Linux support will be installed soon.

Enjoy!

Eric, for the SCS support staff.
