New machine/www.cs.fiu.edu moving

Please welcome a new machine to the department. escher.cs.fiu.edu is
a sparc Ultra I server. It is available for all users. Escher.cs.fiu.edu's
primary purpose is department web services and, in the near future, lotus
notes service.

The department web server (www.cs.fiu.edu) will be moving from its
current location on mustang.cs.fiu.edu to escher.cs.fiu.edu. The name
users use to access it (www.cs.fiu.edu) will not change, and for most
people the move will be transparent.

Java developers will need to take note and perhaps start any servers their
java applets talk to on escher.cs.fiu.edu, instead of mustang.cs.fiu.edu.

The move of the alias will begin at 7:30 on Thursday (6-17-97). Because
various nameservers will cache the old information for up to 3 hours, the
old web server on mustang will remain up until Noon.
