FIU ACM Mission Statement

FIU ACM is a student chapter of ACM. The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the professional organization for Computer Science. Since 1947, the ACM has educated hundreds of thousands of programmers, software engineers, analysts, theorist, and educators in the use of computing technologies. By sponsoring a wide variety of technical conferences, publishing journals and conference proceedings, and providing forums for students and professionals to meet and exchange ideas the ACM helps its members reach their career goals. Whether students have interest in software engineering, multimedia, networking, database management, open source programming, .Net, web development, computer graphics, computer programming, animation, operating systems, or any other similar area, ACM and their Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have it covered. Students benefit from the ACM's rich tradition in bringing the best practices of the Computer Science field demonstrated by over 50 years of state-of-the-art research by its members.

With the support of students, the FIU ACM chapter will provide:

  1. Career development by inviting professionals from the business and academic community to advice students on technical topics and job related information including internship and full-time job opportunities.
  2. Invite top nation-wide research speakers to help students expand their knowledge base and consequently increase the quality of their research.
  3. Networking opportunities for students to meet peers with common interests. This can help them develop long-term friendships which could be very valuable in their future careers.
  4. Help organize programming competitions so that students have the opportunity to compete internationally.
  5. Work together with other clubs and organizations that have similar interests to not overlap timing of events and create more opportunities for students.
