RESEARCH

I am interested in simulation and modeling of computer systems and computer networks. My research areas include parallel and distributed discrete-event simulation, and high-performance simulation and modeling of large-scale computer networks. Here is a brief summary of my research.

Here is a list of my publications. And, here are my research projects.

Previous Endeavors:

  • During my Ph.D. years, I designed and implemented the Dartmouth Scalable Simulation Framework (DaSSF), a parallel discrete-event simulation kernel (its subsequent variant is called iSSF). Among many applications, the simulator has been used by researchers to model global computer networks, large-scale wireless ad hoc networks, sensor networks, cellular networks, grid computing infrastructure, and large-scale parallel architectures.
  • I also assumed the leading role in the development of DaSSFNet, which is a simulator designed for global-scale network simulations, and SWAN, which is a simulator for large-scale wireless mobile ad hoc network simulations.
  • When I was a post-doc, I collaborated with researchers at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign working on the MOSES (Modeling Of SEcurity and Systems) project.

TEACHING

I'm teaching CNT-4513: Data Communications in Fall 2008.

I'll be teaching COP-4994: Introduction to Parallel Computing in Spring 2009.

In the past, I have taught the following courses:

  • CSM MACS-440: undergrad-level parallel computing (2004).
  • CSM MACS-461: senior seminar (2005).
  • CSM MACS-542: simulation (2005, 2006, 2007).
  • CSM MACS-563: grad-level parallel computing (2004, 2005, 2006).
  • CSM MACS-598: advanced computer simulation (2005).
  • CSM MACS-572: computer networks II (2007).
  • FIU CNT-4513: data communications (2007)
  • FIU CIS-5931: special topics: modeling and simulation of data communication systems (2008)

Current Students:

  • Yue Li, postdoctoral student.
  • Miguel Erazo, Ph.D. student.
  • Ting Li, Ph.D. student.
  • Nathanael Van Vorst, Ph.D. student.
  • Alberto Aguilar, Ph.D. student.
