The FIU Learning Assistant (LA) Program was created to improve the education of undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and to expose them to the field of education. The FIU LA Program is sponsored by STEM Departments as well as the Office of the Provost. LAs work with faculty, graduate and other undergraduate students in reformed introductory classes and labs to facilitate student learning. LAs also attend a 1-credit weekly seminar with LAs from other classes to study brain science research on how people think and learn. The LA experience prepares LAs to be classroom leaders on a college or K-12 level and develops them as agents of change in a field within their discipline.
