Don't miss this excellent opportunity to further your career with a Masters or Doctorate in Computer Science; and what better place to get that degree here at Florida International University (FIU). Our school is a leader statewide in federal research funding for Computer Science; an average of $1.7M over that last five years. Our faculty and their research are recognized by scientific institutions like the National Science Foundation as well as the national press, like the Miami Herald, for their work in the field. Our faculty publish texts which are used by other Computer Science programs internationally and by computing professional as "must have" programming reference guides.

In addition, NSF recognizes that academic institutions with significant minority student enrollments play a vital role in conducting research that contributes to our knowledge base in all disciplines, and in educating minority students who go on to careers in fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The Centers of Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) program makes substantial resources available to upgrade the capabilities of the most research-productive minority-serving institutions. It develops outstanding centers through the integration of education and research. It serves to promote the production of new knowdlege, to increase the research productivity of individual faculty, and to expand a diverse student presence in STEM disciplines. The program also enables CREST Centers to increase the effectiveness of related science and engineering activities within their research areas.

Our research centers include High-Performance Database Research Center (HPDRC), Center for Advanced Distributed System Engineering (CADSE) and Distributed Multimedia Information Systems (DMIS).

There are eight areas of specialization within the department: Database systems, Software Engineering, Parallel and distributed systems, Computer networks, Theory, Artificial intelligence, Cognitive Science and Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

Information about graduate admission requirements, coursework and general information about our graduate program can be found at our Graduate Information page.

Financial assistance is available on a highly competitive basis in the form of fellowships and assistantships. Special fellowships are sometimes available for minority students and women. Only full-time students are eligible for assistantships. Click to see the current Graduate Assistant Payscale.
