2023 Faculty Awards of Excellence

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Hadi Amini and Dr. Selcuk Uluagac recently received Faculty Awards of Excellence. Dr. Amini was recognized in the category of teaching, receiving the FIU Award in Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Uluagac was honored in the research category, receiving the Award in Excellence in Research.

2023 Faculty Awards of ExcellenceDr. Amini is an Assistant Professor in the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences. He is the founding director of Sustainability, Optimization, and Learning for InterDependent Networks Laboratory (www.solidlab.network). He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2019, where he received his M.Sc. degree in 2015. His research on advanced machine learning algorithms/optimization and their applications has been extensively funded by various federal and state agencies. His research interests include distributed machine learning/optimization algorithms, federated learning, interdependent networks, cyber-physical-social resilience, and cybersecurity. Application domains include smart cities, transportation networks, and healthcare.

2023 Faculty Awards of ExcellenceDr. Uluagac is an Eminent Scholar Chaired Professor.  He holds a Ph.D. from Georgia Tech and an MS from Carnegie Mellon University in cybersecurity.  He is an expert in the areas of cybersecurity and privacy with an emphasis on their practical aspects (focusing on systems security topics, malware, ransomware, forensics, IoT, CPS, and smart systems) and teaches classes in these areas. He has received the NSF CAREER Award, US Air Force Office of Sponsored Research’s Summer Faculty Fellowship, University of Padova (Italy)’s Faculty Fellowship, Google’s ASPIRE Research Award in Security and Privacy, and a Faculty Fellowship from the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.
