In the recent FIU Faculty Top Scholar awards, KFSCIS displayed remarkable excellence, securing an impressive six out of the top sixteen positions across the entire university.

Dr. Janki Bhimani was the FIU Top Scholar for Award-Winning Publications. Dr. Bhimani is an Assistant Professor. Her research is in Flash-Based Storage Systems, Big Data Processing, Cloud Computing, High-Performance Computing, and Parallel and Distributed Computing.

Dr. Patricia McDermott-Wells received the Dedicated Mentoring Award for her work with students. She shares her more than 35 years of professional software development experience in the industry as a software developer and software specialist with her students. Pat is the faculty advisor for the Students in Technology, Academia, Research and Service program providing peer tutoring.

Professor Giri Narasimhan earned the honors for Engagement Beyond the Classroom. Dr. Narasimhan is a recognized force in our community for his K-12 education and training of Miami-Dade and Broward County teachers in computer science. He is the Site Director for the ACM Southeast Regional Programming Competition.

Professor Masoud Sadjadi was awarded the Faculty with Notable Gains in Student Learning and Success (Sciences). Dr. Sadjadi leads the Computer Science, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity Capstone program for KFSCIS seniors. The senior design showcase or “Capstone” program brings undergraduate students from different disciplines to showcase their final products.

Dr. Mark Weiss won the Teaching Award for Excellence for External Programs. Dr. Weiss is a Distinguished University Professor in KFSCIS and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Engineering and Computing at FIU. He is a three-time winner of FIU’s Top Scholar Award.

Dr. Richard Whittaker took the honors for Globally Engaged and/or Culturally Responsive Teaching. Professor Whittaker’s teaching and research specialize in the dynamics of complex systems to analyze global financial arbitrage. He has been involved in the development of algorithmic trading systems and specializes in global structural manufacturing processes. He brings a global perspective to every class he teaches.
