Shonda and Shalisha Witherspoon create a path for women in Tech

Information technology majors, identical twins, Shonda and Shalisha Witherspoon, walked across the graduation stage this morning sharing top honors in their graduating class at Florida International University. With a matching 3.95 GPAs Also, becoming the first in their family to graduate from college.

While attending, FIU Professor Norman Pestaina recommended them for positions as a student assistant in Professor Naphtali Rishe’s High-Performance Database Research Center at FIU. This is where the sisters made programs that process images, geographically coded data and worked with data such as real-estate and census information for their projects.

The sisters plan on getting their post-graduate degrees in computer science, a male-dominated industry. Since the twins speak Japanese, they hope to find an internship in software engineering in Japan next summer. Their goal is to move to Japan and start their own software engineering business.
