Speaker Bio

Umut Topkara received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Purdue University. He is a senior research scientist at Bloomberg in New York. Previously, he was a software engineer at JW Player and at Google, and a research scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Lab. His research interests include machine learning, natural language processing, mobile collaboration, and security.

Description

Decision makers around the world look to Bloomberg for delivering timely political, business and financial information and insight. Ever since the SEC has approved the use of Twitter for company disclosures, the Bloomberg terminal has provided ways for investors to sift through an avalanche of tweets and discover financially relevant content. Umut will give an overview of Bloomberg’s machine learning and natural language processing software infrastructure that enables such content discovery on Twitter.
