ESSRI: Special Session on "Event-based Systems for Software Reuse and Integration"
The event-based approach has been considered as a promising direction for distributed system communication and integration over the past years. The event-based approach uses event registration and notification for system interoperation. Independent software systems can interconnected and collaborate by generating and consuming events within the event-based infrastructure. Loosely-coupled distributed systems can use events to drive business logic. By capturing dynamic behavior of participants, different event-based approaches applied various techniques to react to event occurrences effectively and actively. In addition to many research projects and industry applications, the paradigm has been incorporated into standard middleware platforms, such as J2EE, CORBA, and COM+.
The purpose of this special
session is to bring together researchers and practitioners working with
event-based approaches and event correlation techniques for software reuse and
integration. The topics for submissions include, but are not limited to:

Malware has been on the rise rapidly, despite extensive efforts to contain them. Once only the bugaboo for PCs and wired networks, malware has found a new breeding ground in mobile devices that connect to the Internet using wireless technologies. Malware is also feared to be becoming more harmful with multiple attack vectors that infect pre-scanned targets.
This special session aims
to provide a timely forum and opportunity for presenting current research on
malware detection. Submissions from academia, industry, government, and
practitioners are invited to present novel research in (but not limited to)
the following areas:

SECI: Special Session on "Software Engineering with Computational Intelligence"
The constantly evolving technological infrastructure presents a daunting challenge of the development and assurance of software systems with increasing size and complexity. Software engineers and project managers are striving to address various problems observed during the different phases of the software development life cycle. However, though related research has seen the development of some important and useful software engineering paradigms, their technology-transfer on a larger scale has been extremely gradual. The recent emergence of computational intelligence techniques in software engineering has opened doors for exploiting the currently developed and mature techniques of fuzzy logic, artificial neural networks, case-based reasoning, machine learning, knowledge-based systems, evolutionary computing, and expert systems.
The Special Track on Software Engineering with Computational Intelligence
will focus on the current research trends in the fusion of the computational
intelligence and software engineering domains. The topics of particular
interest to the special track include but are not limited to:

SSW: Special Session on “Software Stability at Work”
Unlike many other engineering fields, the products produced through software engineering are largely intangible. Also, unlike the products of other engineering fields, software products are unlikely to remain stable over a long period of time. This problem is more than just an inconvenience for software engineers and software users. The reengineering that is required for these software products does not come without a price. It is not uncommon to hear of these reengineering projects costing hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. This does not take into account the time that is wasted by this continual reengineering process. Software defects and “deterioration” are caused by changes in software. Many of these changes cannot be avoided, but they can be minimized. Currently, when a change must be made to a software program, the entire program is often reengineered. It does not matter if the change required is due to new technology or to a change in clientele. The core purpose of the software product has not changed. Why then, must the entire project be reengineered to incorporate a change? This special session will examine the state of art and practice in software stability.
Submissions are invited for papers describing original unpublished, or currently under review, research results and meaningful experiences. Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:
